As is well documented, Schulz never liked the name Peanuts, and would rather have used "Li'l Folks" (except that Li'l Abner was still popular) or "Good Ol' Charlie Brown" but the syndicate didn't want to focus on the single character.

On May 27th 2000 a number of comics in North America ran tribute strips posthumously for Charles Schulz. Some of these can be viewed on peanuts.com.
Illiad's UserFriendly joined in (and his can be seen on his website). After Schulz's retirement, even South Africa's Madam & Eve ran a tribute (though that one appears to no longer be online).

Characters Shermy and Patty, who had been part of the "original lineup" disappeared from the strip completely during the 1960s.

A very short lived character was "Charlotte Braun." She only appeared around 1954.

The first licensed, plastic figures of the characters were maed by Hungerford Plastics Corp. in 1958.
Figures included Schroeder, with piano, complete with bust of Beethoven, Sally, Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus with blanket, Lucy and a CLEAN Pig-Pen!
