I've got too much time on my hands.

Want proof? Do you think part of these two pieces of music sound familiar?

Aggie War Hymn

Yogi Bear theme

I didn't think the dancing girls looked at all like Yogi.

Was that the question?

We're about half way! That's what I always told my kids when we were on a trip and they asked.

Something bizarre from the land of the bizarre.

Japanese newborns visit relatives as cuddly rice bags
Posted Tue Jan 8, 2008 6:28pm AEDT

Newborn babies in Japan who cannot make it round to visit all their relatives can now send them proxies instead - cuddly bags of rice.

A small rice shop in Fukuoka, southern Japan, has been swamped with orders for "Dakigokochi" rice-filled bags shaped like a bundled baby and printed with the newborn's face and name.

Each rice bag is tailor-made to weigh as much as the new-born and shaped so the rice fills the bag up. Holding the round-edged bag is intended to feel like holding a real baby.

"Other rice shops sell bags printed with baby photos, but they use regular bags. People say they aren't good for holding," said Naruo Ono, owner of the rice shop, Yoshimiya.

"Rice for small babies would be stuck at the bottom of the bag and the baby's photo would be scrunched at the top."

It is customary in Japan to give people gifts or money on occasions such as births and the recipient then responds with other gifts, often worth half the amount they received.

Ms Ono said the rice bags have made perfect "half-return" gifts although relatives face a dilemma once they are done with the cuddling.

"People say they have a hard time opening them up and eating the rice," Ms Ono said.

how about a coffee table book about all the american geographic wonders, or american artists, or an american foods cookbook?

or a package of hotdogs and a sixpack of beer that tastes like water.

I like all the ideas.....hotdogs might be especially fun. Part of the challenge is that I need to buy for 25 people so I can't afford very much, and then I have to have something compact to fit in my suitcase with all my clothes...<sigh>

Maybe I'll look for recipe cards....
