Anyone that recalls the classic 1951 movie, The Day The Earth Stood Still, as being more of a parable than a sci-fi movie will want to see the remake released yesterday. The director, Scott Derrickson, can be proud of presenting the 21st century message in the same detailed deep footprints of a half century earlier, but with all of today's effects and technological inferences, in a manner to get a two thumbs up from a 14 year old granddaughter. This is definitely not a Rocky XVIII remake and you will leave the theater pondering more thoughts than you came with.
I'd be very interested in the honest impressions of this new version from anybody that hadn't seen the original first.

	| My 17 year old is really anxious to see it. Not my thing. I was going to send him if his grades improved but alas he is still failing everything damn near, except AP Latin Vergil. |

I thought I wanted to see this, but buzz is not good and the reviews are calling it horrible. Even the bloggers are panning it. I think this one will be reserved for the "sneak into" category. $12 (the price of tickets here) is way too much to pay for a crap flick.

	| I'm almost embarrassed to admit it, but I've never seen the original, and I'm a HUGE sci-fi fan. I probably won't see the remake in the theater, since I rarely go to the movies, and only generally go when there is a movie my son wants to see. But I'll definitely be looking for this one to come out on DVD and watch it then. Maybe I'll actually see the original by then
As far as the critics disliking it, I gave up listening to them years ago; mainly because everything they hated, I loved and vice versa

	| I liked the original. The new one just doesn't appeal; I guess I'm feeling a lack of subtlety coming out of the previews. |

	| The sequel was better left unmade, having more to do with Swarm by Michael Crichton than the original movie.

	| I have seen the original, and am looking forward to the release of the remake here in OZ.
But as for listening to critics and others renditions I find I tend to wait untill I have seen it myself.
I remember the flogging the critics gave a film called Gothic" many years ago which i enjoyed thouroughly.
Seems the critics could not remember much of the history related to the opium trade.

If you wish to see a film do so, and make your own judgement.
