I spent a week in a place called Mount Tremblant, which is just north of Montreal...it is lovely. Mountains, lakes, shopping, quiet time, lots of water sports in the summer....and snow skiing in the winter of you're into such things.
I love Maine. We spent a week on Bailey Island a couple of years ago, and I had a wonderful time. Good contemplation place...but I am sure you could teach the kids how to go clamming, and maybe do a bit of deep sea fishing to keep them busy.
Bahamas might be fun and inexpensive from where you are.....I enjoyed the shopping and beaches there. It doesn't feel very foreign at all...not a very intimidating vacation.
Of course...If CA is still ont he list, feel free to come and stay with me in San Francisco. We'll be settled by the end of April....and we're renting a three bedroom place, so we could make it work.

I'd take you to Ghirardelli Square (where the ice cream is fantastic), Fisherman's Wharf, and (of course) a day trip to Yosemite National Park. You'd have to see the redwoods (and the bears).

Seriously....you're always welcome.

And I'd love to have you.
