Where did vibrators come from?
The first vibrators were used as medical instruments to treat an illness called "hysteria" (women). The symptons for this included irritability, anxiety, shortness of breath and vaginal lubrication - basically they were aroused! Doctors would "relieve" these symptons by rubbing the clitoris until orgasm!
Vibrators were 'invented' by a physician to lower the amount of time this process took - as a doctor "relieving" a woman was quite time consuming. The first vibrators were powered by steam and this made the treatment quick and efficient! Naturally this treatment was popular even when it wasn't seen to be needed!
By the late 1920's these steam powered vibrators were not being used as much by doctors and cheaper models were coming on the market advertised as "deviced for relaxation". The 20's "blue movies" began showing vibtrators in scenes but this was generally frowned upon.
By the 1960's vibrators were making a come back advertised as massagers and could be bought from any popular catalog.
By the 1990's, with the invention for the internet, the sex toys industry grew by leaps and bounds and is still growing.
