My son has been taken off the respirator and is breathing on his own with some difficulty and a lot of pain but he seems to have passed the life threatening points. He is still considered 'serious but stable' and they hope to move him to a 'step down unit' by tomorrow. Just breathing is a task so talking is not a consideration right now. He shows the stress when writing a couple short notes for the medical people so isn't up to conversation.

There is going to be a LOT of healing and we'll see when and where that takes us. For now I'm just one VERY grateful father that I still have my son.

It's been a very long 23 hours.
