1- Doing some general file cleaning and computer maintenance, I managed to delete a few hundred OS root directory files. 
(actually I did that last night)
The next few hour of stark fucking terror was spent trying to find a way to boot my computer. 
2- Today I carried my HD to my computer at work and installed it as a slave drive to possibly gain access to some of my data. 
3- The gods smiled on me.
