There are a number of small devices (half the size of a cigarette pack) which scream loudly when a pin is pulled. They can be put into handbags so that if the bag is grabbed, the alarm goes off and the bag becomes an embarassment.

They're only about 10 bucks each.

There a few easy to install do it yourself home alarm kits out there. Protect America is monitored and fairly easy to install. A buddy of mine has it.

I'm off to northern Maryland for a bit over a week. Not sure of the connectivity, so I may or may not be back in the interim.
