Nah, they'd been fishing up the creek and the tide came in. They were walking in ankle deep water back to the parking area when the (unnoticed) croc reacted. It was probably more of a territory dispute than a dinner invitation.

Maybe the croc was just irritable? I mean dry scaly skin can be really annoying.

Nothing dry and scaly about croc (or gator) skin. Ask GG.
