I have a person that works for me going through gender reassignment right now, M-F. There are those at work that aren't tolerant and understanding and they have started the jokes.

I knew a person that did ... and would still speak with her and be polite ...

... but we weren't really "friends" before the operation and not likely to become friends now. Not because of prejudice, but just I didn't know them that well. I think I could be friends with a transgendered person ... but only for day-to-day things like work or seeing them somewhere in public.
