Thanks, OF...I'll be over in about...oh, 23 hours, is it? :D

Oldfart 01-29-2012 05:02 PM

Nearer 30, depending on your connection through Sydney.

PantyFanatic 01-30-2012 03:20 AM

LOL ^^^

dicksbro 01-30-2012 06:10 AM

Yep. Only good news about the new week is that the temps are suppose to be ranging from the mid to upper 40's. Not bad for Illinois at the end of January. I've seen it way below zero this time of year.

gekkogecko 01-30-2012 10:13 AM

Well, I'm going into work today, see if I can manage in spite of this latest round of illness issues.

This year's calendar is a day to day match for the year I was born.

Oldfart 01-30-2012 10:40 PM

Are you a 6 baby?

Lilith 01-30-2012 10:47 PM

I'm here at Pixies alone with Scotz & OF. Been a long time but I believe I can still manage the Slippery Dip ;)

. . . . but surely worth the effort.

AZRedHot 01-31-2012 01:30 AM

I took down one wall of tile and drywall, shoveled it all up and schlepped it out to the trash, and now my right arm is killing me. I'm going to have to ice the whole damn thing just to get to sleep tonight. I'm getting too old for this shit!

Fangtasia 01-31-2012 05:38 AM

I gotta have a back xray done tomorrow. Been told i NEED to find another job. I also HAVE to get some bricks off my suspension, as the doc put it *L*(lose weight)

So tis knuckle time for me, or i just may not be around to see things in the future, scary shit that.
So this year will be, find another suitable job, dietician + lose weight, get my life back under control!

*fingers crossed for me guys!

Hope the day went well and will only get better!

Gotta visit the dentist later this morning (just a cleaning :) ).

Oldfart 01-31-2012 07:29 PM

My phone line has finally died, in the part which is my responsibility, not my telco's.

Thank god for my wireless dongle.

dicksbro 02-01-2012 02:42 AM

If you hung your phone on the pole outside, could you then blame the problem on your telephone company? Just a thought. :)

Oldfart 02-01-2012 09:39 AM

I'd rather hang the clown who buried the line in the concrete slab and didn't run a reserve pull-through.

We've been overrun and the trampling is getting deadly. Time to cull some of the herds, you and me. :argue: Starting now, you fight your tiger and I'll lock up with my lion. Going to be a hard year.

gekkogecko 02-01-2012 12:40 PM

I'm wondering what it's like to be healthy.

Deal!

Got results of the xrays :( Ole arthur-itus has progressed to medium level, i have disk degeneration happening, 1 in particular is not brilliant, hence the shooting pains down the legs and numbness. Both are hereditary, so i had an idea. My job is definately not helping matters.

But hey what job can i get that will allow me to stand, walk around and sit when i need to..and something i'm skilled enough to do :( It sux

Positive note though, have been doing ok so far with the eating, i know its only early, but well, i'm pleased *L*

Housekeeping. I feel ya, Fang...I had to give up my sedentary job because it was killing me--the chronic pain from my back and hips was intractable; I'm feeling a lot better since I "retired." Now, I'm a homemaker, moving around all day, changing things up. I'm grateful to have the option. But for all people want to talk about the health (and girth) of people these days, no one wants to look hard enough at the contributory factors of sedentary jobs. One cannot undo 8 hours of sitting in one hour at the gym. It's just not possible.

Fangtasia 02-01-2012 09:46 PM

I have a physical job, very similar to housekeeping. Fast paced, heavy going and constant for 8hours. My workmates are being very understanding and helping me where they can but i cant expect them to do that forever, tis not fair. I get home at the end of each shift in pain and struggling. This is the one i need to leave. As you say i cannot go into a office type job as sitting all day would be just as bad if not worse.
Unfortunately i need to work, if i could get paid to stay home and look after my house i'd be all for it *L* Retiring is a long way off for me :(

AZRedHot 02-01-2012 10:04 PM

I hear ya. I hope a better option for you presents itself immediately, if not sooner.

Lilith 02-01-2012 10:37 PM

I just applied for a job that would allow me to work from home and thereby perv here at a more respectable rate.

AZRedHot 02-02-2012 01:02 AM

Would you enjoy working from home, Lil? You're so sociable!

I'm a recluse, myself, so being at home works for me, but it drives my dad (a gregarious sort) nuts.

Lilith 02-02-2012 05:49 AM

I think it will make me a bit nuts. I would have pretty flexible hours and could volunteer or tutor some of my favorite people.

dicksbro 02-02-2012 06:30 AM

Has PF applied to be tutored yet? That should keep you from become bored ... although you may still feel a bit nuts.

shadowsfate 02-02-2012 09:35 AM

Fangtasia, just wondering i yo have found anything to help deal wtih that pain, as it sounds exactly like what I am dealing with. Unfortunately mine has gotten to the point whre hot baths/showers or ibuprofin no longer touch the pain.

Fangtasia 02-02-2012 12:12 PM

Shadow, I can take the edge off with panadine forte, but it is becoming less effective at it. So mostly i just put up with it :( Some days i cope better than others.
I cant take ibuprofin, it is linked to taking the potassium out of your system, which can make you ill. I used to use them quite a bit, but I had extremely low levels of potassium and had to take tabs and eat a lot of bananas, so i avoid ibu. like the plague.

AZRedHot 02-02-2012 12:26 PM

I gave up on ibuprofen awhile back because massive doses weren't helping, and narcotic pain relievers didn't touch my pain, either. I finally got lucky with Celebrex, which is also an NSAID, but if you haven't tried it, might be worth a trial. I ended up asking for it because my dad took it, and he had good results, and he and I are very similar physically and how we react to meds. It was a shot in the dark, but it paid off for me.

shadowsfate 02-02-2012 07:44 PM

thanks for the ideas, AZ and Fantasia. And I know what you mean about the painkillers, AZ,almost all of the painklliers I have been on never touched the pain, they just made me not care (which made for an interesting programming class one time lol). The only one that seemed to anything for the pain was Demarol but that was because it pretty much knocked me out.

Oldfart 02-02-2012 08:52 PM

There is a hypnotic process where a suggestion is made that a simple act (eating a Tic-Tac or saying a phrase (or indeed a combination of simple acts) will make you believe that the pain has abated. As painkillers merely mask the pain, this is a psychological way of doing the same. It works by telling the body it feels the pain still, but not near as strongly.

This is not a cure for whatever is causing the pain, but may let you get a good night's sleep.

No, I don't know any practicioners personally who use this technique.

Aqua 02-03-2012 03:48 AM

Later today I am going to be the subject of a photo shoot because a studio wants to make use of my talents so they can test a ridiculously expensive camera they just acquired.

I am excited!

jseal 02-03-2012 05:54 AM

^^ Good Luck! I hope it goes well! ^^
