You may want to talk to AZRedHot. The lady has a lot of insight and talent with a guitar.

Lord Snow 10-14-2010 10:59 PM

Neige, if you learn Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin you'll have my heart forever.

PantyFanatic 10-14-2010 11:46 PM

She already has your heart in her tiddlywink collection.

I concur.

Neige 10-15-2010 03:45 PM

Then she must have tougher fingertips than I!

Aqua 10-15-2010 03:52 PM

Ayuh, I guarantee it. The good news is, when you've played enough your fingertips will toughen up. At first, though... well... no pain no gain applies. :p

What kind of music are you wanting to play?

Neige 10-15-2010 04:11 PM

I want to play the accordion. The guitar was cheaper though! (Seriously, I just paid $50 for it. I figured I'll try it out and if I don't like it, I'll be able to get that back for it.)

I want to play Pink Floyd. :D I want to play stuff I can sing along to.

AZRedHot 10-16-2010 02:11 AM

If you're up for it, you can give yourself a little protection of the fake callus variety by dabbing superglue on your fingertips and letting it dry. DON'T TOUCH THEM TOGETHER!! :p It doesn't last long, but it can give you a little extra something as you learn and until you build your own calluses; you'll be so very proud when you do.

I had a hard time, too, and OTP suggested that I switch to nylon strings while I was learning; it helped a lot, but once you change your guitar to nylon (if it's not a classical already), you have to change the nut, too, so it's not a change to be made lightly.

I'm of the "start cheap and upgrade later" school myself (though I can see the argument that a great sounding guitar might be more motivational); my first was a $99 Walmart special. I didn't want to feel guilty if it sat in a corner, and it did for like 2 years. But she was and remains a decent sounding guitar for the price. And then I went to guitar camp and saw all these beautiful instruments, and it was all over for me. :D Be careful; guitars are like tattoos...almost no one gets just one. Guitar Acquisition Syndrome is a real disease! Good luck learning; you'll love it, even when you're cussing.

Too true! A friend of mine has G.A.S. and the $$$ add up.

Sounds good though ... :)

Lilith 10-16-2010 07:51 AM

I'm heading in to work in a few and then going to my kid's dojo picnic. Apparently he gave everyone a beat down last night and I missed it so I'm looking forward to the blow by blow.

Applies to harp, as well. And of course, the finger thing as well.

Though my shoulder won't allow me to play mine lately. Grrr.

Lord Snow 10-16-2010 01:03 PM

Only instrument I played was a trumpet. I was pretty good while I was in school.

sodaklostsoul 10-16-2010 10:40 PM

Today sucked!!

Oldfart 10-17-2010 12:37 AM

Introduce me please?

dicksbro 10-17-2010 02:06 AM

Silly, you know who you are. :rolleyes2

Lilith 10-20-2010 04:55 PM

I've planned a very busy day Saturday being in service to others. I do better if I don't have time to think that day.

Citrouille caught two mice tonight, in my kitchen!!! Yay for organic mouse traps! :D

Lord Snow 10-22-2010 10:51 PM

So long as she earns her keep. Course, I have a friend that thinks cats were put on this earth for only two reasons....target and chili. I don't agree, but I find the joke amusing.

GusAspar 10-23-2010 12:47 AM

Pouring with rain here this morning. I think that eliminates the plan to do some weeding at the allotment.

dicksbro 10-23-2010 03:24 PM

We had a pretty strong rain here, too. Was raining hard when we went to the movie and while we were in watching the show. Stopped now, but more is predicted for tonight and tomorrow. Actually, this was a good thing. We were down some for the month and really needed some.

Lord Snow 10-23-2010 04:57 PM

We've had a few brush fires spring up because of lack of rain. Which is funny since we flooded out real bad earlier this year.

Pita 10-23-2010 07:46 PM

My back is hurting and he just offered to rub it for me. Night all! :D

WildIrish 10-23-2010 08:48 PM

Rufus has new back tires and I put new brakes & rotors on her fronts. She's a happy girl now. Purrs like a fiesty little bitch again. :hot:

Neige 10-24-2010 08:01 PM

Good, in a way, because it had been coming for a while and it's a relief to have it done.

Bad, in a way, because I hate hurting him.

Lilith 10-24-2010 08:27 PM

((hugs))

Neige 10-24-2010 08:29 PM

Thanks, Lil.

((((Neige))))

Neige 10-25-2010 11:27 AM

I guess I'm not leaving anymore! When we got to talking, we realized maybe we could've worked harder at this. So we are going to try again.
